Follow the links below for maps showing the trends and peak years for railway station usage in Great Britain since 1998.
(For clarity, the 2021 figures - which were severely affected by COVID - are not shown).

Map 1: 'Long-term' trend 1998 - 2025

Nearly all stations have seen long-term growth 1998 - 2025.

Map 2: Year of peak usage

Stations in black had peak usage in 2025
Stations in blue had peak usage just before COVID
Stations in red had peak usage around 2000
Stations in green had peak usage around 2010



The maps can be zoomed and dragged.

Hover cursor over station to get current (2025) usage figures. The data for each year run to the end of March.

Growth is expressed as a "percentage growth rate per year averaged over the period in question".

This is like compound interest. For example an average growth rate of 5% per year would lead to 165% growth over 20 years because 1.05^20 = 2.65.

Click on each station to see a time-series graph of usage.

The colour of each station indicates trend in the relevant time period.
